Archer Elgin acted as the prime consultant for the Master Site Plan and building design for a multi-phased project which included design, electrical, mechanical, and plumbing for a new 20,000 square foot vehicle maintenance facility and solid waste shop facility. The building was a pre-engineered metal building on concrete cast in place foundation with concrete approaches and twelve work bays. The facility included: 4,000 square feet of concrete block walls with an overhead mezzanine, concrete floors, removable rails, over the top of the secure parts room, fluids storage, overhead distribution systems, kitchen, shower and locker room facilities, office and break/training areas, and secure tool storage. The facility also had a covered wash bay, 2 vehicle lifts, vehicle exhaust systems, paint booth, and welding and tire replacement areas. The facility was designed to be primarily heated by a wood-burning radiant floor heating system, saving the municipality thousands of dollars in heating costs compared to natural gas. The project bids came in at $2,064,000, just above the project budget of $2,000,000. Archer-Elgin administered value-engineering negotiations with the low bidder to provide a facility to meet the owner’s needs at a price of $1,843,000.
